The Ski Stars program is for 5 to 10 year olds who have some skiing experience and would like to become better skiers, have more fun on the mountain, and get a taste of racing. The goal of the program is to have a great time exploring Mission Ridge, learn new skills, help participants become good all mountain skiers, and introduce them to ski racing. Ski Stars coaches are the best around and student to coach ratios are low ensuring quality instruction everyday.
Ski Stars Mission Statement
The Ski Stars Program goal is to inspire kids to make skiing a life long sport and to provide children with an introduction to the technical tools necessary to become great all mountain skiers.
Ski Stars Philosophy
Skiing should be fun and learning should never be a chore. Children learn by watching and Ski Stars Coaches provide excellent visual aids. Instructions are kept as simple as possible and focus is put on progressively building technical skills.
Ski more, laugh more and learn more.
Program Dates: Ski Stars is an 8 week program with the option to ski Saturday, or Sunday. The Saturday program starts January 3, 2015 and ends February 21, 2015. The Sunday program starts January 4, 2015 and ends February 21, 2015. Both programs end on a Saturday with a Ski Stars only race. One make up day is allowed.
Schedule: 9:00 AM meet outside the Hampton Lodge ready to ski. 11:30 AM break for lunch 12:30 PM meet outside Hampton Lodge ready to ski until 2:30 PM.
Coaches: Ski Stars coaches are energetic, excellent skiers, with great knowledge of modern technique and of Mission Ridge. All coaches have a racing background and some are recently retired ski racers. All Ski Stars coaches can carve, ski powder, hit jumps, and tear up the mountain. They are great skiers and provide their students with outstanding visual aids along with top notch instructions.
Ski Stars Team members must be between the ages of 5 and 10, and must be able to ski Chair 1, but do not need to be able to ride the chair without assistance. Example: you can ski with comfort and in control down Mimi, can make turns and are able to stop when needed. If after the first day of the program the coaches think you are not quite ready for Ski Stars they will recommend a skill level appropriate Mission Ridge Ski Area Ski School Program.
Ski Stars Team Members need 1 pair of skis, 1 pair of poles, ski boots, a helmet, and warm winter clothing.
Introduction to Racing:
As part of learning how to become a good all mountain skier Ski Stars are introduced to skiing around gates. In addition Ski Stars provides race coaching for participants that are interested in racing at the Apple Invite, and the Squirrel Cup held at Mission Ridge. The last day of Ski Stars will be a Ski Stars only race held on Saturday February 21th for both the Saturday and Sunday program.
